94% of American consumers will give up online shopping! The reason is this

It is learned that according to a joint survey by Harris Poll and Google Cloud, in 2021, approximately 94% of American consumers gave up purchasing because of "irrelevant search results", a behavior also known as "search abandonment."

According to the survey, when searching for "comfortable black short-sleeved long skirt" on e-commerce websites, even with precise search results on color, fabric, specifications, etc., American consumers are unable to obtain accurate search results, but need to make multiple improvements, which leads many consumers to directly give up the purchase journey.

According to a survey, American retailers lose $300 billion in profits every year due to "search abandonment". Poor search experience leads consumers to have a bad purchasing experience and lose interest in buying.

In addition, it is worth noting that 22% of American consumers will abandon their orders because they cannot find a suitable payment method. Payment methods will also affect consumers' purchasing decisions. Currently, the most popular payment method for American consumers is still credit cards. The use rate of "buy now, pay later" has also increased.

It is learned that more and more retailers are aware of the huge losses caused by "search abandonment" and have reached cooperation with Google Cloud (which provides site search solutions) to reduce losses. For example, Lowe's has reached a cooperation with Google Cloud to provide customers with long-tail keyword search results, which has increased its click-through rate and search conversion rate, and reduced the search abandonment rate.

In addition, by improving and optimizing search results, Brazilian digital platform Pernambucanas saw a 20% reduction in the number of refined search results during Black Friday 2021. And the platform's sales also increased. Benefiting from Google Cloud Site Search solutions, GroupBy saw online revenue increase by more than 10%, or millions of dollars.
