Founded in 2005, real.de is a German e-commerce platform under the Metro Group and has become the third largest e-commerce platform in Germany. It was later acquired by Kaufland and its traffic soared. In 2020, Kaufland's sales increased by 88%, with sales volume reaching 1 billion euros, 21 million monthly visitors to the website, and 750,000 fans on the social networking site Facebook.

The platform's best-selling categories include electronic products, sporting goods, home appliances, kitchen supplies, furniture supplies, garden, DIY, personal care and health, office supplies, and fashion shoes.

It has grown to more than 1,200 branches, more than 500 of which are in Germany, and the rest are spread across most European countries.
