How do Amazon sellers relist stranded inventory?

How do Amazon sellers relist stranded inventory?

Managing inventory is a very important skill for FBA sellers. Effective inventory management can greatly improve your delivery efficiency, save time, and enhance the user's shopping experience. It also affects the seller's inventory performance indicators.

Stranded inventory is a problem that FBA sellers often encounter in inventory management. Stranded inventory refers to inventory that has been stored in Amazon FBA centers without circulation. Let's first talk about what situations will cause inventory stranded. ‍

Stranded Inventory

Some buyers may confuse the difference between unfulfillable inventory and stranded inventory. In fact, the difference between the two lies mainly in the listing status of the product .

Unfulfillable inventory means that the listing is active and valid , but the product cannot be delivered due to damage, misplacement, or loss of accessories during transportation. In addition, incorrect listings, poor labeling, etc. can also cause inventory to be unable to be delivered, which will cause huge losses to sellers.

Stranded inventory is the opposite. It is mainly because the product cannot be sold due to listing reasons such as being removed from the shelves, incomplete or inactive.

In both cases, Amazon will continue to charge inventory fees, causing sellers to pay high inventory fees, including monthly storage fees, long-term storage fees, etc.

Common causes of stranded inventory

There are many reasons why stranded inventory can occur. The first is price errors , such as when a seller adjusts the price to exceed or fall below the maximum and minimum selling prices, which can cause the product to be unsaleable.

Then, when the product is sent to the warehouse, the listing has not been created yet . Or the listing is deleted by mistake or maliciously by a competitor. If there are still products with this listing in the warehouse, it will cause inventory to be stranded.

Another common reason for inventory backlog is that the listing is frozen . It takes some time for the seller to resolve the issue and relist the listing. It is worth noting that the listing will not be automatically reactivated after the problem is resolved, and the seller needs to relist it himself.

How to solve the problem of stranded inventory

Amazon backend provides sellers with a stranded inventory report . First log in to Seller Central, then click Manage Inventory under Inventory , and then find Fix Stranded Inventory . On this page, you can see a form through which you can edit or remove stranded products.

Sellers are advised to bookmark this page and check it once a week.

To remove stranded inventory, click Action   , and then click on the Create Removal Order option . You will need to pay the removal order fee whether you return the product or give it to Amazon. Once completed, just wait for the form to refresh.

Sometimes you will also see the option to change to FBA (Change to Fulfilled by Amazon). This may be because you mistakenly selected MFN (self-fulfilled) for product delivery when creating FBA inventory. Click this option to revert to FBA delivery.

To relist stranded inventory, you must first understand the reason why the product cannot be sold, and then correct it . If you really don’t know the reason, you can refer to the experience summarized by other sellers:

  • Modify product prices

  • View inventory files and re-edit quantities, conditions (Condition Notes) and other data

  • Delete the listing and create it again

  • Contact Seller Support and have them help you resolve this issue

  • Re-upload the listing (upload it in Add Products in Inventory)

How to automatically relist stranded inventory

Automatically relisting stranded inventory is simple. Amazon FBA sellers can find the option to Edit automatic action settings in the upper right corner of the Fix Stranded Inventory page . This tool:

  • You can automatically relist your products. For example, if the listing is closed, the product is discontinued, or there is an error in the product information, you can choose to relist the listing within 1-30 days.
  • It can also automatically correct the delivery method and change MFN to FBA.
