DHL, a global express and logistics services provider, said this week that it has moved its pickup and delivery operations in Carson, California, to a new logistics center in Redondo Beach, California. The new $5 million facility is 60 percent larger than the previous facility, the company said, adding that it provides numerous benefits to customers, including increased shipping capacity and faster shipment processing, resulting in faster delivery times for customers in the Long Beach and South Bay areas. The new facility is located at 4000 Redondo Beach Boulevard in Redondo Beach, California. DHL said the facility serves more than 50 cities in Southern California and is less than four miles from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), where the company operates international and domestic flights to and from its LAX gateway. More importantly, it consists of 40,000 square feet of warehousing and office space, which includes new material handling equipment and doubles the available space to accommodate up to 56 vehicles that load and unload goods around its conveyor system. The facility, which employs more than 80 people, can handle up to 3,775 shipments per hour and can handle domestic and time-definite international shipments to and from the 225 countries and territories served by DHL Express. DHL also noted that its growth in local package delivery has been driven by e-commerce shipping and other vertical industries, including banking, technology, fashion and aerospace. Ahead of the launch of the all-electric pickup and delivery vehicles, the new facility features charging stations that support the sustainability goals of DHL's parent company, Deutsche Post DHL Group, which is focused on electrifying 60% of its global delivery fleet by 2030. “DHL is pleased to expand and enhance the capabilities of its international shippers in this country’s largest export market and continue to help customers – large and small – take advantage of business growth opportunities beyond our borders,” Aaron Gallagher, vice president and general manager of DHL, said in a statement. “This logistics center is located close to the DHL Express Gateway at Los Angeles International Airport, so we can receive many shipments at this facility more quickly, resulting in earlier deliveries for many of our customers in Southern California. It is also located in a more convenient location for customers to pick up and drop off packages, and includes a larger parking lot and an improved front desk area.” A DHL spokesperson also said a key driver for the new logistics center is that it provides DHL with more space to grow with international customers and manage more freight volumes.
