YouTube vs. TikTok! Americans do their homework on social media before seeing a doctor!

It is learned that a study by CharityRx, a survey of 2,000 Americans of different ages including Generation Z, Millennials, Generation X and Baby Boomers, showed that when Americans need to understand health topics, one in five Americans prefer TikTok rather than seeing a doctor.

65% of Americans surveyed use Google first before consulting a doctor, 33% go to YouTube first, and one in five prioritize TikTok over other sources. Drilling down into age groups, 44% of Gen Z respondents do their homework on YouTube before seeing a doctor, and 33% turn to TikTok. They are less likely to consult Google first than older generations, with only 27% doing so.

Instead, older generations are more likely to head to Google. This includes 32% of millennials, 36% of Gen X, and 36% of baby boomers. Meanwhile, 39% of millennials, 30% of Gen X, and 21% of baby boomers visit YouTube. When it comes to TikTok, 26% of millennials, 14% of Gen X, and 4% of baby boomers prefer TikTok.

CharityRx also revealed that 55% of respondents cited medical testimonials or credentials as a reason they trust social network creators. 40% said the influencer’s years of experience was a factor, and 26% mentioned credibility based on shared experiences.

It is learned that in July, Google’s internal data showed that nearly half of Generation Z users prefer to use TikTok (or even Instagram) for internet searches rather than Google Search and Maps.
