Taking Meta's path and leaving Meta with nowhere to go? TikTok will launch new virtual reality glasses Pico4!

It is learned that in addition to competing with Facebook in terms of downloads, Tiktok is now also promoting its virtual reality department. As Meta continues to bet on the metaverse, TikTok's parent company ByteDance is also eyeing this emerging market and is ready to make a big move in the metaverse, and will launch its first battle through the launch of its new virtual reality glasses.

TikTok claims its new virtual reality glasses are better than the new virtual reality glasses that Meta-owned company Oculus will launch in October. TikTok's virtual glasses are called Pico4, a new version of ByteDance's Pico disruptive glasses. TikTok's virtual reality glasses have a pair of controllers and leg sensor straps.

Equipped with a 2.84GHz octa-core Snapdragon XR2 processor, plus 128GB and 256GB storage configurations, the price is $429 and $499 respectively. There are also two 2.56-inch LCD screens with refresh rates between 75 and 90 Hz. The resolution reaches 4320x2160.

Compared with other products on the market, Pico4 is lighter and 26.2% smaller than other models on average in terms of specifications. It weighs only 295 grams without a strap. Pico4 is aimed at gaming, exercising, and watching immersive videos, and is also a new way to watch Tik Tok.

In addition, ByteDance is also developing Pico Worlds, which is similar to Meta's Horizon Worlds, for users to interact in the metaverse.

Pico Worlds will bring together various activities and mini-games (archery, basketball, etc.), in addition to a discussion area, and users can also build their own paradise in virtual reality. Pico Worlds also look more realistic than Meta avatars, and Pico4 can also "read" the user's leg movements.

When will Pico4 be available?

It is understood that at present, Pico4 will be officially released to the Chinese market on September 27, and will be released in Japan, South Korea and 13 European countries including the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain and Italy in October. It will also be launched in Singapore and Malaysia later this year. As for the US market, it is expected to be launched in 2023.
