Compromising with sellers? Etsy announces adjustments to its star seller program!

It is learned that according to foreign media reports, after the sellers held a strike protest (setting the store to vacation mode), Etsy announced adjustments to its star seller program, including simplifying rating standards, improving the information delivery experience and lowering the minimum order amount.

1. Simplify the rating standards

Etsy has lowered the seller rating standard, and now sellers with a 4.8-star rating can more easily obtain the star seller badge, compared to the previous standard of 5.0 star rating. This move is to encourage sellers with a star rating of 4.0 or above to take active steps to obtain the star seller badge.

2. Improve the information delivery experience

It is reported that in order to obtain the star seller badge, sellers must reply to the buyer's first message within 24 hours, or reply to more than 95% of the buyer's messages. To help sellers meet this standard, Etsy announced that it will improve the information delivery experience in June and merge messages sent from the same buyer.

3. Reduce the minimum order amount

Starting July 1, stores that have had at least five orders (down from 10) in the past three months are eligible for the Star Seller badge, and the total value of these orders before shipping and taxes must reach $300. The previous measurement criteria was "at least 10 orders and $300 in sales in the three-month review period."

In response to the sellers' question about reducing sales commission fees, Etsy still insisted on increasing the sellers' sales commission from 5% to 6.5%. It also stated that the additional fees will be used to enhance the customer experience and improve the platform, and these improvements are positive and beneficial to sellers.

It can be seen that Etsy has listened to the sellers' suggestions to a certain extent, but has not completely compromised, in response to the sellers' suggestions on canceling the commission fee increase, ending the star seller program, improving customer messaging services, and allowing sellers to conduct off-site promotions.
