What is a Bank Holiday? Bank Holiday Review
The UK's national holidays are different from those in China. In addition to a few well-known major holidays, such as New Year's Day, Easter, and Christmas, other holidays in the UK are uniformly called Bank Holidays! What's even more unique is that the UK's public holidays are not uniform. In addition to a few major traditional holidays, England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland each have their own Bank Holidays. English Bank Holiday Chinese Bank Holiday Recognition Time 1871

origin

The origins of Bank Holiday can be traced back to 1834. Before that, the Bank of England set about 33 religious festivals as holidays each year, but later it was reduced to 4.

In 1871, banker Sir John Lubbock formally proposed to set Bank Holiday as a legal holiday, which meant a day off for the whole country. People also called the first Bank Holiday "St Lubbock's Day" as a thank you.

Bank Holidays were added to the original ones for various reasons, such as New Year's Day in England and Wales, Spring bank holiday in May, Summer bank holiday in August and Early May bank holiday were all added later.

Basic Introduction

The so-called Bank Holiday, as the name suggests, is a day when banks are closed. In fact, banks are not allowed to operate on these days, resulting in the inability to operate in some other industries. Therefore, many British shops will also be closed on this day. However, most shops will continue to operate even on bank holidays. They are named Bank Holidays because on these days, banks are closed and there is no business activity. If a Bank Holiday happens to fall on a weekend, then choose a day in another week (usually the following week) to make up for it as a Bank Holiday.
