It's settled! France will not restart the blockade for now. Prime Minister: Curfew is enough
The new coronavirus variant discovered in the UK is spreading in France, and the number of infected cases is increasing, bringing more uncertainty to the epidemic. However, French government spokespersons and the prime minister have successively stated that there are currently no plans to restart the third round of blockades.

According to French BFM TV, the French government may announce new anti-epidemic decisions in the next few days. On the one hand, the increase in family gatherings and social activities during Christmas and New Year will have a comprehensive impact on the epidemic, and comprehensive data will be submitted to the Ministry of Health in the next two days; on the other hand, the new coronavirus variant discovered in the UK is spreading in France, and the number of infected cases is increasing.

French government spokesman Gabriel Attal said on the 11th that there is no plan to restart the third round of blockade, but the government is closely monitoring the evolution of the epidemic. He stressed that some neighboring countries have had to restart the blockade, and the level of virus transmission in those countries is sometimes "two to three times" that of France. The French have made a lot of efforts, and the government has taken strong measures very early. The most important thing now is not to relax vigilance and continue to take necessary measures.

French Prime Minister Jean Castex held a video conference with members of the Senate and the National Assembly on the 11th to discuss the epidemic situation. He said that of course the plan to restart the blockade is not ruled out, but according to current indicators, the implementation of a curfew is sufficient, "We are doing everything we can to avoid a blockade, but all options are on the table."

Castex also pointed out that under the state of health emergency, curfew measures in some areas may be further extended beyond mid-February.

French epidemiologist Andois Flahaut said that the next week is a critical period. France's epidemic curve is in an extremely unstable state. If the curve gets out of control and worsens, the government will have to announce a third round of lockdown to avoid overcrowding in the medical system.

But more medical experts believe that a curfew alone is not enough to reverse the worsening epidemic situation. Guis Piarroux, director of the infectious disease department at Paris Denon Hospital, pointed out that a third round of lockdown is inevitable: "This new variant may have appeared in the UK in September 2020 and began to have a serious impact on the UK in December 2020. Considering the two-month time difference, the virus variant will also have an impact in France, so the situation is very complicated."
