AI-generated reviews are the trend of e-commerce? After Amazon, another platform launched

It is learned that in August, the US electronic e-commerce platform Newegg announced that it has launched an AI-generated review function on its website. It is currently only open to PC users and is not yet available on the mobile terminal. The launch date has not yet been announced. In June, Amazon also announced that it would test this function. AI-generated reviews have become a new trend in e-commerce.

It is reported that after Newegg releases the new feature, Newegg will display "ReviewBytes" below the product listing pictures on its platform, highlighting some of the advantages that appear more frequently in the reviews of the listing, such as "battery life" or "sound quality".

At the top of the listing, Newegg’s AI review generation tool will also summarize customer reviews and place them under “SummaryAI”. It will also list the pros and cons of the product, with the pros being basically the same as the “ReviewBytes” below the picture.

For electronic products and related e-commerce platforms, product reviews are particularly important for improving conversions. A survey by DigitalCommerce360 shows that 30% of American consumers will make purchases based on the quality and quantity of product reviews. On Newegg, 20% of consumers read reviews, and they spend an average of 40% more than consumers who do not read reviews.

Newegg spent about two years developing its AI review function. At this stage, it is only available for PC websites, and product reviews need to reach a certain number before they can be used, but Newegg has not yet disclosed the specific number. It is worth noting that the review summary will only be generated based on the reviews that have been published on Newegg.com.

In addition, Newegg's AI-generated reviews have not been manually reviewed, but customers are allowed to provide feedback on positive and negative reviews that do not match the product, and Newegg will make adjustments as needed. This means that if the merchant's positive reviews are fake, the keyword recommendation may be cancelled due to customer complaints.

So far, Newegg has launched the AI review generation tool for two weeks, and many customers have used it. Newegg will measure the effectiveness of the tool based on clicks, views and consumer behavior. According to Newegg's feedback, the tool is currently performing well, but it has not yet disclosed relevant data.
