Year-to-date! Changes in traffic of Amazon, Temu, and Shein in the United States

It is learned that on July 11, GWS released the traffic data of major e-commerce platforms in the United States, focusing on analyzing the changes in mobile traffic of the three major platforms, Amazon, Temu, and Shein, as well as the differences in user characteristics of each platform.

Data shows that the number of users of Amazon's mobile app has plummeted since April 2023, with daily active users falling from 54 million to 46 million, and daily active users falling by nearly 8 million in the past nine months. Despite this, Amazon's daily active users are still twice that of the second largest e-commerce platform in the United States.

At the same time, emerging e-commerce platforms represented by Temu and Shein are rising rapidly.

Data shows that since the beginning of the year, Temu's daily active users have increased by nearly 10 million to 17 million, making it the second-highest shopping app in the U.S. with Walmart. Shein has also achieved significant user growth this year, with daily active users increasing from 3.1 million to 4.9 million in the past year.

In terms of user engagement, Temu has the highest average daily usage time per user, at 20 minutes, while Amazon and Shein lag behind, at 12 minutes and 14 minutes respectively.

Although the number of users and engagement are not as high as Temu and Shein, Amazon’s mobile users are more evenly distributed in terms of gender, with 41% male users and 59% female users. In comparison, the proportion of female users of Temu and Shein is 69% and 90% respectively, and male users are 31% and 10% respectively.
