It is learned that according to foreign media reports, following a successful pilot in February 2022, the US e-commerce platform Target will launch a "drive-up return" service this spring. The service will be launched on the "Drive Up" delivery function, and Target plans to provide this service in all of its nearly 2,000 US stores by the end of this summer. According to reports, customers need to find curbside returns from the order details section of the Target app and select Drive Up returns. The store will then be notified that the customer is on the way. Once arriving at the selected store, the customer parks the car at the Drive Up location and clicks "I'm here" in the app, and the clerk will come out to pick up the goods. The customer receives a return confirmation via email and the app, and the refund will be issued to the original payment method used. Target allows customers to return most new, unopened items for free within 90 days of purchase with a drive-through return service, and customers can return Target-branded items for free within one year of purchase. Target first launched its Drive Up curbside pickup service in October 2017, expanded the service in August 2018, and then launched it on a larger scale starting in April 2019. Over the past few years, Target has been expanding its delivery network. In November 2022, Target announced a partnership with Starbucks to provide freshly prepared Starbucks beverages and food to customers in specific areas through curbside pickup. At the start of the 2021 holiday season, Target launched the "Shopping Partner" service, which allows customers to send someone to pick up their orders. At that time, another service added, "Forget Something", also supports customers to complete the initial order in the Target app, continue to place a new order in the same store, and then get all the products at once. In May 2021, Target began offering beer, wine, hard seltzer and other alcoholic beverages via pickup or drive-up at more than 1,200 stores across the U.S., and same-day delivery through Shipt at more than 600 locations. Target also recently said it would spend $100 million to build a larger network of supply chain centers to speed up the delivery of online orders and reduce delivery costs. The retailer plans to build at least 15 facilities, known as sorting centers, by the end of January 2026.
