The U.S. pet market continues to be hot, with online sales expected to reach $30.7 billion in 2022!

According to Packaged Facts' "U.S. Pet Product Retail and Online Shopping Trends," U.S. e-commerce sales of pet products are expected to reach $30.7 billion in 2022, accounting for 36% of total retail sales. In 2017, online sales accounted for 16% of total pet product retail sales.

Packaged Facts also predicts that e-commerce sales of pet supplies will reach 45% by 2026. Although in-store sales still account for the vast majority of total retail sales, sales in this channel are declining.

Many U.S. shoppers now purchase pet products both in-store and online. For example, among Walmart pet supply shoppers, half (51%) buy them in the supermarket, a third (33%) buy them online, and a quarter (27%) buy them in specialty stores.

Packaged Facts estimates that online pet retailers such as Chewy and Petco.com will achieve huge success in 2022, with their sales expected to account for 40% of the entire U.S. pet supplies market.

The report also pointed out that "online shopping, home delivery" service is a key factor that motivates consumers to purchase pet supplies. Retailers such as Amazon, Walmart, Chewy, Petco.com and others all provide this service.

According to eMarket, pet product retail sales in the United States will reach nearly $70 billion in 2022, up 3.6% from last year. Although pet retailers' revenue may decrease, it will still maintain steady growth.
