It is learned that LTK, a global influencer marketing platform, recently released the latest forecast report on American holiday shopping. The report reveals the consumption trends and shopping behavior changes of American consumers during this holiday season, providing direction for sellers to prepare for the holiday season.
Consumers seek more discounts
The holiday season is often the time of the year when discounts are the highest, and consumers will subconsciously look for cheaper goods. According to LTK research, Americans will buy more "discounted goods" than ever before this holiday season, and 70% of consumers are looking for more promotions and discounts.
Consumers are also looking to save money by shopping earlier: Nearly half (47%) of shoppers plan to start buying holiday gifts between September and mid-October, and 36% say they plan to shop earlier this year than last year.
Consumers are shopping more online
The survey shows that the vast majority of consumers (96%) plan to purchase holiday season items online. In addition, more than half (53%) said they plan to do the majority of their shopping online. Consumers are also turning to their mobile phones for holiday shopping, as 86% of consumers plan to shop via mobile phones, and nearly half of millennials plan to make most of their purchases on their phones.
Influencer recommendations play an important role in holiday shopping
As more people shop online, creators are having a growing influence on consumers. Research shows that creators have four times more influence on consumers than celebrity recommendations and more than social media ads. Consumers are choosing products based on creator recommendations. The survey shows that 72% of consumers say their shopping inspiration comes from social media, a proportion that is even higher among Millennials (81%) and Generation Z (83%).
What consumers plan to buy this holiday season
According to the study, more than half of consumers intend to spend the same amount or more during the 2022 holiday season as they did last year. This year, more consumers are considering apparel and accessories (26%) as gift options, compared to candy/food/gift baskets (24%), toys (23%), and electronics (21%).
Pleasure spending is also growing, with Americans beginning to pay more attention to self-care and the environment at home. 61% of consumers plan to spend more or the same amount on themselves and their homes during the 2022 holiday season.
When asked what U.S. consumers plan to buy for themselves, self-care gifts topped the list. Consumers ranked beauty/personal care items first (32%), followed by electronics, candy/food and beer, wine and spirits.
Likewise, consumers are trying to get their homes ready for the holidays for friends and family get-togethers. The survey shows that the holiday items consumers are buying mainly include candles, decorations and electronics.
