Update delivery fleet! USPS will purchase at least 25,000 electric delivery trucks!

In order to modernize the delivery network, optimize delivery routes, and improve delivery facilities, USPS announced plans to purchase at least 25,000 electric delivery vehicles, more than tripling its previous purchase plan, to update its aging delivery fleet. In February of this year, USPS announced that it would purchase up to 165,000 delivery vehicles, promising that at least 10% would be electric vans (BEVs).

At least 25,000 of the first 50,000 mail delivery vehicles ordered from Oshkosh will be electric, and the USPS has also expressed its intention to purchase more than 34,500 commercial off-the-shelf delivery vehicles over the next two years.

On July 20, USPS pledged to electrify 40% of its new delivery fleet. The announcement came after 16 states, the District of Columbia, and four of the nation's top environmental groups sued USPS in the spring to block initial purchase plans or force it to buy more electric trucks. USPS said 95% of its delivery routes are suitable for electrification, and activists want USPS's fleet to include at least 75% electric delivery vehicles.

It is learned that the USPS has purchased a total of 84,500 trucks, which will begin operating by the end of 2023. Currently, the USPS's more than 217,000 vehicles make up the largest share of federal civilian vehicles.
