TikTok will launch "content rating" and "filtering" functions! Limit viewing by minors!

It is learned that minors use social networks without any restrictions, which enables them to easily access content that is not suitable for their age. In view of this, TikTok announced that it will launch a new "content level" rating system in the coming weeks, which will begin to classify videos according to age ranges and begin to restrict minors from browsing content with certain "mature content" labels or accounts. As early as February, TikTok said it was studying new ways to restrict minors' access to certain types of content to improve its safety features for teenagers.

TikTok said in a statement: "Some content may include real events or experiences intended for mature audiences, and this mature and complex subject matter is not suitable for minors." When teenagers aged 13 to 17 encounter videos containing "mature or complex themes", a notification will pop up to them stating that the video is age-restricted and cannot be viewed.

TikTok did not specify what system will be used to determine content categories, but assured that a maturity score will be assigned to each video to categorize users. In addition, TikTok will allow the banning and review of certain tags or accounts to respond to parental concerns about minors consuming content in the app. At the same time, TikTok also added a new feature to filter unwanted topics, which will filter out video content or topic tags that users do not want to see.

The move comes at a critical time for TikTok to restore its image, as some American families have condemned the adverse effects of violent and harassing videos played on the social network on minors. In addition, last week the U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee asked the Federal Trade Commission to investigate whether the Chinese government accessed U.S. user data through the TikTok app, which put TikTok in a data leak storm, but TikTok denied the allegations.
