2022 Prime Day is set! 88% of Americans will spend money! What will they buy?

It is learned that Amazon Prime Day 2022 will be held on July 12-13. According to a survey conducted by BlackFriday.com, 88% of Americans plan to shop online on Prime Day this year, which is ten percentage points higher than last year, but the average spending plan has dropped by 30%, with an average per capita spending of $233, down from $326 in 2021. It can be seen that high global inflation has limited consumers' spending capacity.

Other retailers, such as Walmart and Target, also tend to launch promotions around Prime Day to grab traffic. According to survey data, the average spending of American consumers at these retailers will also decline, down more than 42% from $268 last year. The data also shows that only 19% of Americans choose to shop only on non-Amazon platforms during Prime Day.

The report states that Amazon’s dominance in the retail sector is driven by 65% of the U.S. population having Prime memberships. Despite Amazon raising its Prime membership subscription fees, 95% of members still renew their subscriptions, which shows the absolute position of Amazon’s Prime membership in the market.

In terms of categories, 47% of consumers plan to spend a lot of money on Prime Day 2022, and 85% of buyers plan to buy back-to-school supplies. 38% of respondents plan to buy clothing and shoes. Home decoration, computers, tablets, smartphones, smart watches, audio and other electrical products, TVs and other home appliances, cleaning supplies, kitchen utensils, and game consoles will all see high demand. The specific list of hot-selling categories is as follows:
