It is learned that BlueYonder surveyed more than 1,000 U.S. consumers aged 18 and above from March 21 to 22, 2022 and found that 86% of consumers are willing to delay receiving goods to improve sustainability. Of those, 29% were willing to delay delivery by up to five days, while 28% were willing to delay it by a week or more. The survey also found that 44% of consumers said their interest in online shopping has continued to increase since the outbreak. Edward Wong, senior vice president and global head of retail at Blue Yonder, said that as retail sales have grown during the pandemic, sustainability has returned to the spotlight and consumers are now willing to do their part to adopt more sustainable shopping habits. The survey found that 64% are willing to spend more on sustainable packaging, and 44% are willing to spend 5% more; 40% agree that consumers must spend a minimum amount to use expedited shipping or regular shipping. The survey also showed that social media influenced the frequency of sustainable shopping for 52% of consumers, with 45% saying they were slightly influenced and 7% saying they were significantly influenced. Among them, Facebook and Instagram have the greatest influence, at 31% and 28% respectively. Facebook is the most popular platform for those aged 45 and over, and Instagram is the most popular platform for those aged 18-44. However, TikTok (16%) and Snapchat (5%) did not have as much influence on consumers, but these platforms had a greater appeal among respondents aged 18-29, with TikTok at 28%. These trends suggest that businesses must consider not only profits but also the environment and humanity when making decisions. Improve sustainability levels through less waste, more efficient production, smarter transportation strategies and reduced resource consumption.
