It is learned that according to data released by Shopify, during Black Friday and Cyber Monday in 2021, Shopify merchants' total sales worldwide reached US$6.3 billion, an increase of 23% from US$5.1 billion last year, setting a record.
According to Shopify, this year’s purchases began to increase 28 days before Cyber Monday, with consumers starting to trade earlier than ever before. In addition, a total of 47 million consumers shopped on Shopify on Black Friday this year.
Peak shopping occurred at 12:02 p.m. ET on Friday, November 26, with peak sales exceeding $3.1 million per minute.
Shopify data shows that during the Black Friday and Cyber Monday period, consumers in Canada, Australia and the United States spent the most per order on average, while the United States (US), the United Kingdom and Canada were the countries with the most orders.
In Canada, the top-selling cities were Toronto, Calgary, and Montreal, with apparel and accessories becoming the country’s top-selling category. Shopify merchants in Canada also saw a 94% increase in point-of-sale (POS) sales compared to last year.
Shopify’s sales data also provided some evidence of the growth of social commerce, as sales generated through social channels during the Black Friday to Cyber Monday weekend nearly tripled year-over-year.
