It is learned that Jungle Scout recently released the 2021 third quarter consumer trend report, conducting a quarterly survey of 1,100 American consumers, revealing the online purchasing behavior of American consumers.
The report states that 65% of consumers search for products online on Amazon, and 47% search for products on search engines such as Google. Meanwhile, 40% of consumers have recently searched for products online through social media platforms, and 27% follow fashion or beauty bloggers.
Many people also shop directly on social media, with 30% on Facebook, 21% on Instagram and 13% on TikTok. Among consumers aged 18-24, 35% shop on Facebook, 44% on Instagram and 33% on TikTok.
In addition, consumers are increasingly concerned about brand responsibility and transparency, with 58% of consumers saying that a brand’s social activities will influence their impression of the brand, including purchasing decisions.
The most influential brand attributes include: treatment of employees (63% of consumers say this influences their purchases), policy transparency (60%), local sourcing (56%) and eco-friendly brands (56%).
“Brands continue to gain visibility and influence buyer behavior on new channels and online platforms, with advertising, social media campaigns and collaborations with influencers more effective than ever before,” said Greg Mercer, founder and CEO of Jungle Scout.
Other key data from the report include:
Consumer Spending: 32% of consumers said they will spend less overall through 2021; only 19% will spend more; and 50% will keep spending the same.
Top Retail Stores and Websites: Nearly as many consumers purchased from a Walmart store (63%) as from Amazon.com (65%) in the past three months.
Peak Season Shopping: The holiday season starts early, with 31% of consumers starting holiday shopping before Halloween and more than half starting before Thanksgiving.
