It is learned that recently, the US grocery giant Albertsons launched a new subscription service Fresh Pass. For only $99 per year, you can enjoy a series of membership benefits and free delivery services, similar to Amazon's Amazon Prime and Walmart's Walmart+.
Albertsons plans to integrate the subscription service with other new features into a new app that will bring together rewards, online ordering, deals and promotions in one place, provide information about item inventory and allow shoppers to view their online and physical purchase history.
The app is available for more than 20 grocery brands under the Albertsons umbrella, including its namesake Safeway, Vons and Jewel-Osco.
Albertsons is the second-largest pure-play grocery chain in the U.S. after Kroger. The cost of the new subscription service is slightly lower than Amazon and slightly higher than Walmart, and given Albertsons' limited brand selection, it may be difficult to compete with large retailers. In addition, both Amazon and Walmart offer cross-category merchandise, while Albertsons is primarily limited to groceries.
