Facebook has many derivative applications. Its instant messaging service Messenger has always allowed new users to register directly using their mobile phone numbers without binding a Facebook account. Now the situation is about to change. According to VentureBeat, Facebook has quietly removed the ability to sign up for Messenger without a Facebook account. Even if users use Messenger Lite, they still need a Facebook account to log in. Previously, users could use Messenger or Messenger Lite apps to log in directly with their phone number as an alternative to logging in with a Facebook account. A Facebook spokesperson said they found that the vast majority of users already logged in with their Facebook account, so they wanted to simplify the process, but the spokesperson also said that if users have already logged in to Messenger without a Facebook account, they don't need to do anything. However, some Messenger users who don't have Facebook accounts said they received an error message indicating their account had been restricted. In January this year, it was reported that Facebook plans to integrate the chat functions of WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger in 2020 to break down the barriers between Facebook's social platforms. |
