What is IFI CLAIMS? IFI CLAIMS Review
IFI CLAIMS has the world's leading patent data platform to gain new insights and innovations. Headquartered in New Haven, CT, USA Founded in 1955

history

In 1955, IFI CLAIMS Patent Services was established, then known as Information for Industry, Inc. (IFI).

In 1960, electronic data and proprietary search software were first made available, with an emphasis on chemical patent information. At that time, IFI produced the first in-depth index of U.S. chemical patents, the Uniterm Index, containing an average of 20 to 25 keywords per U.S. patent. The Uniterm Index was initially available in a printed dual dictionary format.

In 1967, IFI began offering the Uniterm index in electronic form, complete with proprietary search software, for use by corporate information departments.

In the 1970s, IFI's U.S. patent database entered the interactive online search arena, becoming the first patent database offered by Lockheed Dialog Information Services. IFI continues to expand the depth and breadth of its U.S. patent content to include all patented technologies, patent citations, legal status changes, reassignments, and published applications. Distribution channels also expanded to include STN International and Questel.

In 2010, Fairview Research, a provider of data-rich technologies, acquired IFI CLAIMS from Wolters Kluwer and expanded the business to include high-value data management services for global patent information across all industries.

In 2017, IFI CLAIMS received investment from Digital Science, a technology company serving stakeholders across the research ecosystem. The investment is part of its goal to diversify the search and analysis landscape by combining awarded grants data, publications and citation data with patent data, allowing for better contextualization of research – from funding to publication to translation and impact.

In 2021, IFI CLAIMS was fully acquired by Digital Science.
