Matt Wicham and Eric Tumer, two entrepreneurs, met each other in the online community Salt Lake City Design and hit it off. Their experience working in software companies and creative hot shops inspired them greatly. In 2005, they founded 8gCat. Wicham recalled, "I have been working on building online stores for physical or creative products. In the process, I realized that it was difficult for musicians or artists to sell their creative products through the Internet. At that time, because the e-commerce system was very expensive and complicated, many people could not take advantage of this new retail method. I think this is our opportunity to show our talents.

Big Cartel Business Model

Big Cartel offers four charging methods, ranging from free to $29.99 per month, depending on the customized services, marketing tools and consumer databases it provides to product owners. After the buyer submits the order, the payment and order information will be directly transferred to the seller's PayPal account. The seller is responsible for packaging and mailing the goods. Big Cartel does not charge any display or sales conversion fees, and does not sign additional contract documents with sellers. Each seller pays a monthly fee to Big Cartel.
