Founder

Jack Zhang is the co-founder and CEO of Airwallex. He has worked in London, Melbourne and Hong Kong for more than ten years and has extensive experience in foreign exchange trading and investment banking. In 2015, Jack Zhang invested in a coffee shop and needed to import raw materials from abroad. In the process of converting Australian dollars into US dollars for B2B payments, Jack Zhang found that about 4% of the costs were lost, so Jack came up with the idea of building a simple, efficient and low-cost cross-border payment platform.

Airwallex brand name

"Airwallex" is a made-up word. It was originally meant to be a multi-currency wallet, which is "wallet". "X" stands for multi-currency, and because the "ex" in "exchange" stands for foreign exchange, it became "wallex". In addition, because our business is virtual, we added "air" in front. Together, it becomes "Airwallex".

The overall meaning conveyed is our slogan: Reimagine cross-border payments.
