The changes in August 2016 split the original "improper registration" clause into a serious violation; and established an independent rule for "abuse of membership rights" as a general violation.

The changes in February 2017 are aimed at controlling behaviors such as lack of transaction intention, malicious use of the convenience of the refund process to achieve other profit-making purposes, and abnormally frequent refunds after purchasing goods, which affects the normal transaction order.

In September 2017, additional control situations and handling measures were added for sellers abusing tools; generally, Taobao’s restrictive measures on abuse of membership rights will be implemented against the accounts that specifically commit such behavior.

In February 2019, Tmall Global explained the rules and implementation details regarding "abuse of membership rights" in the "Tmall Global Terms of Service".
