Founded in 1999 by Pawoot Pongvitayapanu, Tarad.com is an online C2C and B2C e-commerce marketplace that now has approximately 260,000 merchants, 3.5 million products and over 3 million users.

From the perspective of individual customers, Tarad's operating model is similar to eBay or Rakuten.

In 2009, Rakuten acquired Tarad.com for US$35 million, after which Rakuten held a 67% stake and changed its name to Rakuten Tarad.com, with Pongvitayapanu holding the remaining shares.

In 2009, Tarad.com lost 5.6 million, in 2010, Tarad.com lost 35 million, and in 2013, Tarad.com lost 117 million baht.

In October 2013, Tarad.com launched their first gay-specific promotional campaign, “Fitness and Muscle Growth,” to encourage young Thai guys to get healthier and stay in shape.

In April 2016, its founder and president bought back all shares from Rakuten and changed the website name back to Tarad.com. After this acquisition, Tarad aims to become a "one-stop service solution provider for SMEs and large enterprises in Thailand."

In March 2018, TCC Group, a Thai beverage, real estate, industrial, agricultural and retail conglomerate, said it would acquire a majority stake in Tarad.com, Thailand's leading domestic e-marketplace operator, to expand its influence in the country's e-commerce market.
