Amazon refunds money for mistakes! On average, each person will receive more than $400

Recently, Amazon announced that it had accepted the official announcement from the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC), and that Amazon is already refunding previous illegal deductions, amounting to as much as 61.7 million U.S. dollars!

We have reported before that around the beginning of 2017, Amazon began to gradually reduce the basic hourly wage of drivers in the Flex program, and deducted some tips without notice, saying "to make up the difference." At first, Amazon's actions were small, and there were only sporadic reports that were easily covered up by Amazon. At the end of 2019, the situation intensified, and the complaints of delivery drivers finally attracted the attention of the FTC, which eventually intervened to investigate and demanded that Amazon return the money.

After more than half a year of negotiations, Amazon finally accepted the FTC's terms and recently began paying drivers. According to the settlement terms, Amazon will pay an average of $422 per driver, with the highest refund for a single driver exceeding $28,000!

Looking back, there have been quite a few similar incidents of extra deductions on Amazon. On our seller side, there was an advertising budget overflow and a commission calculation bug. Each of these incidents resulted in a real loss of money for the sellers.

A detailed analysis of the Amazon fee deduction bugs of the past

In 2019, Amazon had a serious fee deduction bug. At that time, the advertising budgets of many sellers were seriously overflowed. The budget set for 10 US dollars ran for 70 or 80 US dollars and did not stop. The amount involved was huge.

At that time, Amazon had not made any positive statement on this matter, which caused strong dissatisfaction and protests among sellers. The incident quickly escalated and eventually reached the official top level. Amazon then took it seriously, issued an apology announcement and email, and promised to refund the excess budget.

The other deduction was quite disgusting. It happened a while ago. Amazon actually secretly deducted more sales commission in the background. Some buyers were deducted from a few tenths to several US dollars for each order!

As soon as the news of Amazon's commission calculation bug came out, many sellers reacted strongly. One reason was that this was the bug that was first discovered by the sellers, and there was no news from Amazon. Another reason was that no one knew when this started. Unlike advertising budgets, sellers would check the background deductions, and the amount was not exaggerated, so it was difficult to detect. The situation of over-deductions of commissions must have continued for some time, and the affected orders could not be checked one by one, and the amount deducted was definitely not a small amount.

The official still has not given the sellers an explanation. If the incident cannot be expanded like the advertising budget incident and attract official attention, Amazon may not return the overcharged money! Now we have to let more sellers know about this, and quickly check if they have been overcharged. Report to Amazon officials, customer service, managers, and try everything you can. Only when Amazon executives know the seriousness of this matter can they return our hard-earned money! Everyone spread and forward it! If you encounter problems in the process of communicating with customer service, you can also scan the code to ask me. I am always on call to help you solve account problems!
