Officials said major sellers are facing a particularly challenging holiday shopping period due to existing supply chain difficulties, inflationary pressures and labor shortages. Several factors are behind these problems, including soaring container costs and container shortages, outbreaks at shipping ports, and a shortage of workers needed to unload containers and handle goods at warehouses.


Amazon also used the latest data from third-party Adobe Analytics. The data shows that compared with the level in 2020, the out-of-stock products on the Internet have increased by 172% this holiday season! And it will increase to as much as 360% in two years! Among them, the clothing category has the highest out-of-stock level, followed by sporting goods, baby products and electronics.


Data agencies also said they had never seen such a level of large-scale shortages, and "our consumers will face a situation where there are no products to buy for a long time." This is the data and forecast that Adobe recently compiled after tracking more than 1 trillion visits to US e-commerce websites and monitoring more than 100 million items sold online.


Amazon officials have been paying attention to this issue for a long time, and have invested more money in inventory planning and surrounding supply chains, and have actively contacted ports to solve the transportation problems of FBA shipments.


Amazon's next move


Amazon is currently the e-commerce platform with the highest shipping capacity and has sufficient funds to ensure that overseas products are warehoused and delivered to customers. More importantly, Amazon has doubled its container handling capacity by increasing in-depth cooperation with ports of entry and ocean carriers to ensure space at "key ports".

Amazon will continue to work in this area to ensure that products can be unloaded and put into warehouses in a timely manner during the peak season. Although the official has not said it explicitly, there is no doubt that the official will give priority to the first-leg shipments of self-operated logistics AGL and planned logistics with cooperating carriers. This is also the reason why Amazon previously required the actual order number to enter the warehouse and required the tracking number to be provided. You can ask your freight forwarder how to deliver at the end of the first leg. If you use the carrier's planned card delivery, you can fill in the tracking number and other information in advance.


Currently, there is a serious backlog of containers at the Port of Long Beach and the Port of Los Angeles.
