54.2% of Americans will shop online on Black Friday! Amazon is the preferred retailer!

According to JLL's 2022 Retail Holiday Survey, more American consumers plan to shop online than in-store on Black Friday this year. Specifically, 39.7% of Americans plan to shop in-store, while 54.2% plan to shop online.

The survey shows that Amazon is the preferred retailer for American consumers this holiday season. 64.3% of consumers will shop at Amazon, 47.9% will shop at Walmart, and 38.8% will shop at Target. Other popular retailers are Kohl's (9.5%), Best Buy (8.2%), and Macy's (7.5%).

As in previous years, U.S. consumers are still very interested in buying gifts during this holiday season. Toys and games (12.5%) are the top purchase (12.5%), followed by clothing (11%), mobile devices (9.8%), household items (9.1%) and food (8.3%).

The survey noted that popular toys included Lego, Squishmallows and Hot Wheels, the most popular game consoles in the United States included PS5, Xbox and Nintendo Switch, and Apple products stood out among mobile devices.

American consumers buy a wide variety of food products, with these products appearing more often on the list, including Harry & David Confection Fruitcake, Hickory Farms Gift Sets and Williams Sonoma Peppermint Bark.

The survey also shows that most consumers will start shopping in advance, especially those who are well-off. Among them, more than half (53.8%) of consumers will start shopping before Thanksgiving, and about one-third of those who are well-off will start shopping before Halloween.

Inflation will have a greater impact on the shopping patterns of middle-income people, as nearly half (49.7%) of consumers with incomes below $50,000 plan to make significant cuts to their budgets.
