Online prices fell 0.2% year-on-year! US inflation slowed slightly in September!

It is learned that Adobe recently released the latest inflation data for the US online retail market. According to the Adobe Digital Price Index (DPI), in September 2022, prices in the US online retail market fell 0.2% from the same period last year and increased 0.8% from August. In August, prices rose 0.4% year-on-year and 2.1% month-on-month. Overall, US inflation has slowed down.

In September, 11 of the 18 categories tracked by the DPI saw year-on-year price increases. Grocery saw the highest increase. Seven categories saw price decreases, including electronics, jewelry, books, toys, flowers and gifts, computers, and sporting goods.

In addition, prices increased in eight of the 18 categories tracked by the DPI compared to August. Prices fell in 10 categories, including electronics, personal care products, jewelry, books, furniture and bedding, toys, home furnishings and garden, household appliances, computers and sporting goods.

Important categories in Adobe Digital Price Index in September

  • Electronic products : Prices fell by 11.3% year-on-year and 1.2% month-on-month. The decline is faster than the pre-epidemic level, with prices in this category falling by an average of 9.1% between 2015 and 2019. On the other hand, prices in this category have continued to fall since December 2021 (down 2.6% year-on-year), and in recent months, the decline has accelerated (down 10% year-on-year in August and 9.3% year-on-year in July).

  • Computers . Prices fell 14.1% year-on-year and 1.9% month-on-month, the largest drop since March 2020. Prices in this category have fallen for 21 consecutive months, far exceeding pre-pandemic levels (between 2015 and 2019, prices fell an average of 9.2%).

  • Food and groceries . Prices continued to soar, up 14.3% year-on-year and 0.8% month-on-month, higher than any other category and hitting a record high. In August, prices in this category increased by 14.1% year-on-year, 13.4% year-on-year in July, and 12.4% year-on-year in June. It has been rising for 32 consecutive months, but consumers' purchasing interest in this category remains high.

  • Pet products . Prices increased by 11.8% year-on-year and 0.01% month-on-month, slightly lower than the previous month's highest year-on-year record (12.7% year-on-year growth in August). As pet ownership surged during the epidemic, demand for related products remained high, and online prices in the pet products category have risen for 29 consecutive months.
