Shopify launches web version of Shop, declaring war on Amazon

It is learned that on October 31, Shopify announced the launch of the web version of its Shop application, which not only opened up the product search function, but also added AI artificial intelligence to help search. This move will make Shop a real shopping platform and also marks a direct confrontation between Shopify and Amazon.

In 2020, Shopify launched the Shop app for the first time. Through this app, users can view the logistics status of their orders purchased from Shopify merchants, search for stores through the app, and click to follow stores or purchase store products in the app.

Since then, in 2021, Shop has also added the ability to track orders from other platforms such as Amazon. However, until now, the Shop app has not yet opened the product search function, only allowing searches for stores, and only a small portion of the products in the store can be seen.

Today, the newly launched Shop web version aggregates all the products sold by Shopify merchants and allows buyers to search for product names. On the right side of the search results, an artificial intelligence shopping assistant is also provided to help optimize the search. If buyers do not want to use this feature, they can also click to hide it.

The domain name of the Shop web version is shop.app/search. Compared with Amazon's complicated user interface, the Shop web version is simpler and clearer, allowing buyers to quickly find and view the products they need. Buyers can also view the store interface and click to see all the merchant's products.

By launching the web version of Shop, buyers can purchase products from Shopify merchants through Shop without downloading the application, bringing more traffic to the merchant stores. However, no more information has been disclosed about the ranking mechanism of search results on the website and how traffic is distributed.
