Instagram is expected to surpass TikTok by 2027

It is learned that Instagram plans to surpass TikTok and Facebook. As the portal mercadonegro.pe published data, although Facebook and TikTok are leading in terms of the number of users, Instagram's growth in the social media sector is impressive and continues to develop rapidly. According to data provided by Only Accounts.io, in 2023, Instagram's users are expected to reach 1.33 billion, which will be an increase of 86 million over the previous year. By 2027, the number of people using Instagram worldwide is expected to increase by another 17.2% to 1.56 billion.

In 2020, Instagram surpassed the 1 billion user mark for the first time, a feat previously only achieved by social media giants like Facebook. However, the platform continues to grow exponentially, with only TikTok posting higher growth rates in recent years.

According to StatistaMarketInsights, nearly 465 million people worldwide joined Instagram between 2019 and 2023, increasing the total number of users from 867.8 million to 1.33 billion, an impressive 53% increase in four years. In contrast, Facebook's number of users increased by 36% over the same period, reaching 2.72 billion by 2023. TikTok's growth was even more pronounced, with its user base increasing by 202% to 1.92 billion by 2023.

However, according to Statista, Instagram is expected to surpass TikTok and become the fastest-growing social media platform by 2027. In the next four years, the number of Instagram users is expected to grow by 234 million, or 17.2%. TikTok follows closely behind with a growth rate of 17% over the same period and is expected to attract about 327 million new users. As for Facebook, its growth is expected to be the slowest among the top three platforms, with an increase of 14%, and its user base will increase by 391 million by 2027.

By 2027, Instagram users will account for about 26% of all social media users, highlighting its popularity, especially among Generation Z and Millennials, who account for more than 60% of its users. According to the 2023 Global Digital Overview Report, about 14% of social media users aged 16-64 listed Instagram as their favorite platform, 0.1% higher than Facebook. Surprisingly, TikTok ranked fifth on this list, with a share of 6.1% among respondents.

In addition, the report also shows that Android users spend an average of 12 hours per month using Instagram, making it the second longest-used social media platform. However, TikTok remains the absolute leader in this category, with an average monthly usage time of 23 hours and 28 minutes, an increase of nearly 20% over the previous year.

The growth and popularity of Instagram demonstrates its influence in the social media space, attracting users of different ages and generations with its focus on photo and video sharing. With its constant development and implementation of new features, Instagram continues to consolidate its position as one of the most important and attractive platforms in the digital world.
