Temu downloads increase: first kill Shein and then attack Amazon and eBay!

It is learned that Temu, a Chinese retailer under PDD Holdings, entered the US market in September 2022. The platform is known for its low prices and wide variety of products. Due to effective social media marketing campaigns and celebrity reviews, including those of American singer Jason Derulo, Temu ranked first in downloads on Apple's App Store. On TikTok, Temu's tag #temu has been viewed more than 400 million times.

Temu called Shein the company's "biggest competitor in the near future" and hoped to surpass Shein in a few years. He also positioned the ultimate "competitors" as the two e-commerce giants Amazon and eBay.

On the other hand, Shein is the sixth most popular online fashion retailer in the UK in 2021, according to Statista . It plans to reach an annual revenue target of $58.5 billion in 2025 .

Temu launched in its secondary market, Canada, just months after becoming one of the top apps in the U.S., and surpassed nearly $200 million in sales in January alone. In the first five months of its release, Temu was downloaded approximately 24 million times.

Temu's sister company Pinduoduo came under fire in 2018 when Chinese regulators launched an investigation following reports of counterfeit products being sold on the platform. As a result, Pinduoduo closed more than 1,000 stores, removed more than 4 million product listings from its site, and blocked 450,000 suspected counterfeit items.
