FedEx announced it will scale back its operations and close some Sunday delivery routes!

It is learned that according to foreign media reports, FedEx recently announced that it will close some Sunday delivery routes starting in March to further reduce the scale of Sunday delivery services, reduce costs and adapt to the decline in consumer demand.

FedEx said: "This adjustment will enable its ground delivery division (FedEx Ground) to maintain its competitive advantage in coverage while improving efficiency." However, the company did not disclose which Sunday routes would be cancelled.

FedEx announced in July 2021 that it would temporarily suspend Sunday delivery services in some rural areas of the United States. At the time, the company said: "It will reduce Sunday delivery services, targeting rural and less populated areas. This will reduce the coverage of the service in the United States from 95% to nearly 80%."

It is worth noting that despite the suspension of services in some areas, independent contractors responsible for FedEx's ground transportation services still complained that operating Sunday routes was unprofitable for them. Due to rising costs, they are facing losses, coupled with a decrease in the number of packages, and their business is far less than before.

The report said that although Sunday shipping services are not as profitable as before, FedEx is planning to further adjust its Sunday delivery services to address the difficulties faced by contractors.

It is learned that FedEx launched its Sunday delivery service in January 2020 to speed up the delivery of packages during the outbreak, and cooperated with independent contractors to provide customers with high-quality transportation services.
