Canada's latest online shopping data is out! These are the hot-selling categories

According to data from Mastercard SpendingPulse, Canadian consumers' spending increased by 12.3% year-on-year in September, of which online spending increased by 1.1% year-on-year and in-store spending increased by 14.9% year-on-year.

As Canadians returned to offices and more parties, weddings and social events took place, sales in the apparel industry surged 34.3% year-on-year in September, far higher than pre-pandemic levels (20.4% year-on-year in the same period of 2019).

Electronics sales were also very strong, driven by the back-to-school season. In September, Canadians spent 8.6% more on electronics than in the same period last year. In addition, online spending also rose in categories such as furniture and home furnishings (10.7%), home care (6.7%), and jewelry (5.2%).

It is worth noting that as the lockdown restrictions were relaxed and people returned to normal social activities, fuel spending increased by 13.5% year-on-year in September. Spending at offline restaurants was also very high, up 6.3% year-on-year.

It is learned that as people's demand for online shopping becomes increasingly strong, the size of Canada's e-commerce market continues to grow. Since 2019, Canada's e-commerce sales have increased by 78%.

It is reported that in 2021, there are more than 27 million e-commerce consumers in Canada, accounting for 72.5% of the total population. It is expected that this figure will increase to 77.6% by 2025. According to Statista's forecast, the compound annual growth rate of Canada's e-commerce market will be 6% in the next four years.
