According to foreign media reports, Walmart recently announced a partnership with The Dodo to expand its influence in the pet market. Through this partnership, Walmart will sell dog clothing, toys, accessories and other products selected by The Dodo's editors.
It is understood that The Dodo is an American media brand and digital publisher focused on telling animal stories. It is also the world's most popular pet and animal content creator, with 115 million fans on social networks.
Walmart will sell pet supplies curated by The Dodo in its stores and on its website to attract more pet owners to shop at Walmart and make it their one-stop destination for pet supplies, the report said.
Walmart will launch an option called "Pet Lovers' Box" in stores and on its website to showcase items from The Dodo, and it has also launched a subscription service called "Walmart Pet Lovers' Box with the Dodo" to provide pet owners with different seasonal items.
Currently, the two companies are focusing on offering products for dogs, but cat products may be added soon. In addition, Walmart Insurance Services will also offer The Dodo's pet insurance program Fetch by The Dodo.
It is reported that Americans spent $124 billion on their pets in 2021, and Walmart already has a significant share of the market, but the retail giant hopes that by partnering with The Dodo it can reach more millennial and Generation Z pet owners.
YuJung Kim, a spokesperson for The Dodo, said that currently, 97% of The Dodo platform's audience has pets, and 95% of them regard their pets as their family members. The cooperation with Walmart will make it as easy for people to shop for their pets as for other family members.
