The volume of packages has dropped sharply! FedEx announced the suspension of Sunday delivery services in some areas of the United States!

It is learned that according to foreign media reports, FedEx recently announced that it will suspend Sunday delivery service in some parts of the United States starting next month.

FedEx said in a statement: "Beginning August 15, the company will scale back Sunday delivery service, targeting rural and less populated areas, reducing service coverage in the U.S. from 95% today to nearly 80%."

It is learned that FedEx launched its Sunday delivery service in January 2020 to speed up the delivery of packages during the outbreak, and cooperated with independent contractors to provide customers with high-quality transportation services.

It is reported that the online shopping boom brought about by the epidemic has subsided. In recent months, independent contractors responsible for FedEx's ground transportation services have been complaining that they are facing losses due to rising costs, coupled with a decrease in the number of packages, and their business is not as good as before. Therefore, they asked FedEx to increase their compensation.

A major contractor on Wednesday asked FedEx to cancel its Sunday delivery service and increase pay to cover its rising fuel, wage and vehicle costs.

Another contractor said it loses $500 million a year on Sunday deliveries because FedEx doesn’t offer enough road routes to run its sorting centers efficiently, which reduces the efficiency of shipping packages.

Data shows that FedEx's ground delivery division's business volume surged 33% during the outbreak, but in the most recent quarter, the company reported a 6.2% drop in business.
