It is learned that Amazon recently announced that it will open a new distribution center in Augusta County, Virginia, USA, which is expected to open in the spring of 2023.
The new facility, which will be used to sort, pack and ship large items such as furniture, outdoor equipment and carpets, is expected to bring 500 new jobs to Amazon's more than 30,000 full-time and part-time employees in the Commonwealth. Amazon currently has more than 30 delivery stations and sorting and distribution centers in Virginia.
Melissa Nick, Amazon’s vice president of North American customer logistics, said the new facility joins two recently launched delivery stations in Waynesboro and Louisa, which will provide even better service and fast Prime shipping speeds to the region.
Additionally, other projects announced by Amazon in 2022 include an inbound cross-dock fulfillment center in Chesapeake and a robotics fulfillment center in Suffolk, both slated to open in spring 2023.
By opening the new facility, Amazon is also eligible for new job benefits from the state's Major Commercial Facility Jobs Tax Credit.
