Walmart Mexico to expand in Central America

It is learned that according to foreign media reports, Walmart Mexico recently said that it is considering "strategic alternatives" to replace its business in Central America, including selling or establishing a joint venture.

Walmart reportedly believes that there may be greater growth opportunities in El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua. Strategic options may include, but are not limited to, potential joint ventures, partnerships or strategic alliances, sales and other transactions.

Today, sales in Honduras, El Salvador and Nicaragua account for less than 8% of Walmart’s total sales, said Bloomberg analyst Jennifer Bartashus.

Walmart CEO Guilherme Loureiro said that the e-commerce market in Central America, Mexico, Costa Rica and Guatemala is developing faster, and Walmart also hopes to occupy more market share in these regions.

It is learned that in recent years, the business in Mexico and Central America has been a long-term stable source of profit for Walmart. Although the US market is also an important source of income for it, it has been suppressed by Amazon. In addition, due to its failure to win in the Brazilian and British markets, Walmart has also set its development goals on India and China.
