It is learned that the British Royal Mail recently announced the acquisition of Rosenau, one of Canada's largest freight companies, for 210 million pounds to strengthen its business in Canada's $25 billion market, which grows by about 5% each year.
Data shows that in the 12 months ending August 31, Rosenau generated $175 million in revenue and an operating profit margin of 10%. It has 24 facilities in four provinces with total assets valued at $197.3 million. Fleet services include less-than-truckload, truckload, breakbulk, hot sales, consolidation, overnight services, deck, container chassis, heated vans and scheduled delivery.
Rosenau will work with Royal Mail subsidiary GLS' existing routes on the US West Coast to expand its cross-border shipping capabilities.
Royal Mail said the acquisition would significantly increase earnings this year and accelerate growth in its international division, its most profitable division. It plans to double GLS's profits to 500 million euros by the end of 2025.
Martin Seidenberg, president of GLS Canada, said that with Rosenau’s strong presence in Western Canada, high quality, entrepreneurial culture, freight capacity and parcel potential, this partnership will create one of the most comprehensive transportation systems in Canada.
