Amazon Whole Foods will add $10 delivery fee due to high operating costs

Amazon announced on Friday that Whole Foods will charge Prime members a delivery fee of $9.95 starting October 25. Previously, Amazon Prime members could enjoy completely free Whole Foods delivery service.

Customers will also have to pay an additional fee for expedited orders within one hour. In addition, Amazon Fresh remains free for Prime members on orders over $35.

The fee is already in effect in parts of the country, including Portland, Maine, Providence, Rhode Island, Manchester, New Hampshire, and the greater Detroit, Boston and Chicago areas.

Amazon said the increase in delivery fees will help cover the increasing operating costs, including the costs of equipment, technology and other equipment associated with grocery delivery orders.
