Halloween product trends revealed! Americans are expected to spend more than $10.1 billion!

According to the National Retail Federation's annual survey conducted by Prosper Insights & Analytics, Americans are expected to spend $10.14 billion on Halloween-related merchandise this year, up from $8.05 billion in 2020, a record high. Plans to celebrate Halloween this year have increased compared to last year, approaching pre-COVID levels.

The survey shows that 65% of Americans plan to celebrate Halloween or participate in Halloween activities this year, up from 58% in 2020. In comparison, the proportion was 68% in 2019.

Average spending is also up. Americans are expected to spend $102.74 per person on costumes, candy, decorations and greeting cards — $10 more than last year. Total spending on Halloween costumes is expected to be $3.32 billion this year, the highest since 2017.

In addition, Americans will also buy Halloween items early, with 45% planning to buy in September or earlier, and another 39% will complete their purchases in early October.

Other findings include:

•Households with children (82%) are more likely to celebrate Halloween than households without children (55%).

•Spending on Halloween decorations continued to climb to $3.17 billion, up from $2.59 billion last year.

•The top ways planned to celebrate include handing out candy (66%), decorating the home or yard (52%), wearing Halloween costumes (46%), carving pumpkins (44%) and hosting or attending a party (25%).

•Interest in pet costumes is growing, with 20% of Americans planning to dress up their pets for Halloween this year.

•Americans are in high demand for costumes such as Spider-Man (over 1.8 million), Disney Princesses (over 1.6 million), and Batman (1.2 million).
