It is reported that more than two dozen ships have recently anchored at the Port of Los Angeles and the Port of Long Beach waiting to unload for a week or more, and some cargo expected in August may have been postponed to September.

The monthly Global Port Tracker report from the National Retail Federation and Hackett Associates shows that U.S. ports handled 2.19 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in July, up 14.2% from the same period last year.

August data has not yet been released, but Global Port Tracker estimates that the month's data was 2.27 million TEUs, up 7.8% year-on-year. August is the beginning of the "peak season", when sellers stock up on holiday goods and ship them in advance to ensure sufficient inventory during the holiday season.

The report points out that supply chain logistics management is currently facing severe problems, as supply chain disruptions make it difficult for both importers and exporters to conduct transactions. All sectors of the supply chain are facing shortages: lack of warehousing, transportation, labor, and increased transportation costs.
