Amazon AWS wins $10 billion contract from US NSA! Microsoft protests!

It is learned that the US National Security Agency (NSA) has recently awarded a secret cloud computing contract worth up to US$10 billion to Amazon AWS.

The contract, codenamed "Wild and Stormy," represents the second multibillion-dollar cloud contract awarded by the U.S. intelligence community, which consists of 17 agencies including the NSA, in the past year. In November, the CIA awarded its C2E contract, which could be worth tens of billions of dollars, to five companies -- AWS, Microsoft, Google, Oracle and IBM -- for bidding.

But the contract was questioned by Microsoft, the company that did not win the bid. Two weeks after receiving the news, Microsoft filed a bid protest with the Government Accountability Office on July 21.

AWS is Amazon's most profitable business unit. AWS first won a $600 million cloud computing contract called C2S with the CIA in 2013. Last year, AWS won at least part of the CIA's multibillion-dollar follow-up C2E contract. Microsoft twice won the Pentagon's multibillion-dollar Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure contract instead of AWS, but Defense Department officials canceled the contract in July after years of litigation.

The Government Accountability Office said it would make a decision on Microsoft's protest by October 29.
