Surf2Ship started operations in July 2018 and works with around 60 international suppliers including major international retailers such as Amazon, Best Buy, eBay, Macy’s and many local Sri Lankan shopping websites, offering more than 6,000 products from more than 20 categories.

The site has received more than 30,000 visits since July. Founder Ravidu Mario Weerakoon revealed that within the next two years, the platform aims to reach 100,000 visitors per month.

Surf2Ship benefits for customers

Founder

The founder of Surf2Ship is Ravidu Mario Weerakoon, a young Sri Lankan computer technology enthusiast.

Ravidu Mario Weerakoon, 21, is also the product innovation manager at e-commerce service company Connect Lanka.

Surf2Ship is a brand fully managed by Connect Lanka E-commerce Services Ltd., a subsidiary of Dart Global Group, a leading multinational transport and logistics solutions provider that has been providing cross-border transport and logistics solutions to customers for the past 40 years.

Surf2Ship plans to leverage Dart Group’s vast logistics network to fulfill product deliveries around the world, and the startup is said to have raised seed funding from Dart Global.

Start-up story

Ravidu Mario Weerakoon said, “It all started when I was 18 years old and got involved in affiliate marketing. That’s when I realised that there were many successful concepts in practice and price comparison was one of them. However, in Sri Lanka, there was no website that could provide price comparisons for a range of products from local and international suppliers. International shipping was also a big issue as some e-commerce websites could not offer cross-border shipping. Thus, the concept of Surf2Ship was born.”
