What is EMC? EMC Evaluation

The full name of EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) is "ElecTRO Magnetic CompatiBILity", which is defined as "the ability of equipment and systems to work normally in their electromagnetic environment and not cause unbearable electromagnetic interference to anything in the environment." This definition contains two meanings. First, the device should be able to work normally in a certain electromagnetic environment, that is, the device should have a certain electromagnetic immunity (EMS); secondly, the electromagnetic interference generated by the device itself cannot have too much impact on other electronic products, that is, electromagnetic interference (EMI).

About EMC

EMC is a very important quality indicator. It is not only related to the working reliability and safety of the product itself, but also may affect the normal operation of other equipment and systems, and is related to the protection of the electromagnetic environment. In order to regulate the electromagnetic compatibility of electronic products, all developed countries and some developing countries have formulated electromagnetic compatibility standards. Electromagnetic compatibility standards are the basic requirements for products to work properly in actual electromagnetic environments. The reason why they are called basic requirements is that even if the product meets the electromagnetic compatibility standards, interference problems may occur in actual use. The standards of most countries are based on the standards formulated by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). The European Community government stipulates that from January 1, 1996, all electrical and electronic products must pass EMC certification and be affixed with the CE mark before they can be sold in the European Community market. This move has caused widespread influence in the world, and governments of various countries have taken measures to implement mandatory management of the EMC performance of electrical and electronic products. Internationally, the more influential ones, such as the EU 2004/108/EC Directive (i.e., the EMC Directive) and the US Federal Code CFR 47/FCC Rules, have put forward clear requirements for electromagnetic compatibility certification.

Scope of application of EMC

1. Applicable to: All electrical or electronic apparatus, equipment and installations that may cause electromagnetic interference or may themselves be affected by electromagnetic interference.

· Household appliances, power tools, lamps and other similar equipment;

Industrial equipment;

· Information technology equipment audio and video products;

· Laboratory, measurement and control equipment;

Other electronic devices.

2. Not applicable to:

Equipment in the 2014/53/EU RED Directive;

· Aviation products, parts and equipment;

Amateur radio equipment;

· Products covered by other special directives;

· Inherently benign equipment.

Common product certification standards

Test content

Materials required for certification application

1. Application for electromagnetic compatibility certification;

2. Documents proving that the product has stable quality and mass production capability;

3. The quality manual of the applicant company;

4. Two copies of the production process overview of the product to be certified;

5. Product manual;

6. Product structure description in duplicate;

7. Product electrical schematic and printed circuit board diagram;

8. List of key parts for electromagnetic compatibility of products in duplicate (with official seal);
