In 1946, Australian Ken Thomas founded Thomas Nationwide Transport in Sydney with just one freight truck.

In 1967, it merged with Alltrans and the company was renamed TNT Ltd., serving Australia and New Zealand.

1980s: Serving 180 countries and regions, it was called "the second biggest transport empire in the world, operating by road, rail, sea, and air". [It also became the first logistics company to purchase its own fleet of aircraft and the first to provide overnight delivery services in Europe.

In 1992, it invested 50% of the capital to establish GD Express Worldwide in a joint venture with Netherlands Telecom and Post, Canada Post, La Poste, Deutsche Post and Swedish Post, and it was listed on the Netherlands Stock Exchange in May 1994.

In 1996, the Netherlands Telecom and Post negotiated a merger with TNT.

In 2012, UPS, the world's largest postal service provider, spent 5.16 billion euros to acquire TNT at a cash price of 9.5 euros per share. In 2015, FedEx acquired TNT Express NV of the Netherlands for 4.4 billion euros (4.8 billion U.S. dollars) (about 37 billion Hong Kong dollars) at 8 euros per share in cash to expand its European business.

TNT in China

TNT was established in China in 1988, mainly providing international express and domestic highway express services. In 2003, the total sales of TNT Express in 25 branches in China exceeded RMB 700 million.
