Thailand's Central Retail announces investment in e-commerce platform Mercular

DNY123 learned that Thai retailer Central Retail recently announced its investment in Thai e-commerce platform Mercular. Currently, Mercular has raised more than US$4 million in Series A financing from Thai and foreign investors, including Central Retail, Kairous Capital, CyberAgent Capital, 500 TukTuks, N-Vest Venture and Premier Advisory Group.

Mercular is headquartered in Bangkok and is a vertical e-commerce platform that mainly sells hobby-related products. It initially sold audio gadgets, and later expanded its product line to sporting goods, cameras, and figures. It currently sells more than 20,000 hobby and lifestyle products.

Tai Chirathivat, deputy chief financial officer of Central Retail, said the investment in Mercular is aimed at supporting promising Thai startups.

The Thai hobby market is growing at a rate of 11.26% and is expected to reach 100 billion baht by 2025. Central Retail said: "We will create a new retail experience to meet various needs through Central Retail's omnichannel and Mercular's strengths in e-commerce and hobby communities."

Woragun Wattanasakchai, CEO and co-founder of Mercular, said that partnering with Central Retail will help accelerate the company's growth and become a leader in the hobby hobby space while building a strong community. "We believe this partnership will enable Mercular to reach consumers across all channels."
