Walmart to add 1 million square feet of supply chain facility in Texas

Walmart plans to add a new 1 million square foot distribution center to its supply chain campus in Baytown, Texas, to support its growing supply chain network, according to foreign media reports. The new facility will be Walmart's fourth distribution center in Baytown and is expected to open in the fall of 2022, when Walmart's total logistics center area in the region will reach 5 million square feet.

According to Walmart's fourth-quarter report for fiscal 2022, the company's U.S. e-commerce business achieved 70% growth in two years, and its order volume in the fourth quarter was six times that before the epidemic.

Therefore, in order to meet the growing e-commerce business, Walmart has been strengthening its supply chain infrastructure and is committed to building high-tech logistics facilities centered on artificial intelligence. Walmart currently has 19 distribution centers, 593 retail stores and employs more than 180,000 employees in Texas.

It is reported that earlier this month Walmart also announced that it will open a new logistics facility of more than 1.8 million square feet in Pennsylvania, which is scheduled to open in the spring of 2022. The facility is mainly used for product storage, sorting and distribution.
